Former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha has tendered his resignation to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Chairman of the party in Imo State, as well as The Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Ihedioha pointed out that he had been a memver of the party since it’s inception in 1998, contributing his quota towards the development and transformation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as one of the founding members.
Ihedioha pointed out that he had taken pride in the fact that the PDP is a party that will always look inward for internal reforms and provide credible leadership for the people, whether in power or outside power.
Ihedioha admitted that he gotten the benefit of serving and benefitting from the party at various levels.
However the former Imo governor regretted that in recent times, the party has taken on a path that was at variance with his personal beliefs.
Ihedioha pointed out that despite his attempt to offer counsel, the party was, sadly no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ihedioha revealed that he was compelled to offer his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect because of those issues.
The rumors of his eventual resignation have been a long time coming with speculations over where his political boat will berth.
Close associates had revealed that he would make a political move after the memorial service of his mother which took place last Sunday at Mbutu, his hometown.
