Some students of Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri has petitioned the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA) Owerri for alleged victimization by the Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN.

It was gathered that the Vice Chancellor recently rusticated over 3000 students of the institution alleging, they hacked the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board(JAMB) and were not bonafide students of the institution.

Part of the Letter of Appeal to the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe with the Caption; PASSIONATE APPEAL TO DIRECT THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF IMO STATE STATE UNIVERSITY OWERRI TO REGULARIZE THE ADMISSIONS OF STUDENTS, by the representatives of all the affected students, read, “Instead of this, we appeal passionately to the Imo State House of Assembly, under the able leadership of Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe to advise the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University Owerri, Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN, to regularize all the affected students having been admitted into the school by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Admissions Board (JAMB)”.

Furthermore, the appeal letter further has it that most of the affected students have been paying their statutory fees in the last years including school fees, faculty and departmental dues.

The students representatives led by a final year student of the institution also noted, “it would be suicidal to throw out the students who have spent between two and five years in the school”, adding, ” Most parents have been suffering to see their children through school, even as they pointed out that, “It will be suicidal if we are thrown out of the institution after many years and this may cause some of the affected students to commit suicide or go into organized crimes when the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, CON, has abated the high rate of crimes in the state”.

In conclusion the students noted, ” We are not against the decision of the institution in ensuring the full realization of the University’s drive for “Excellence in Service”, however, we most passionately solicit for mercy so as to regularize our admission’s processes to graduate accordingly”, just as they pledged to remain grateful and good ambassadors of the University as always.

A reliable source at the Imo State House of Assembly, further informed that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olemgbe was touched seeing some of the students cried in his office.

On the recent publication of over 500 names of students by the Management of the Imo State University, Barrister Emeka Ifeanyi condemned the publication saying, the IMSU management was not the mouthpiece of the JAMB.
” It is unfortunate that Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN, has turned the institution into a glorified secondary school. He should face the overall good of the school instead of chasing shadows.

” When did Chukwumaeze become the mouthpiece or spokesman for JAMB to announce that the board’s website or portal was hacked “, the legal luminary asked rhetorically.

Adding his voice, an IT expert, Engr. Kingsley Chima carpeted the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Professor Chukwumaeze, for “being too busy for nothing”, just as he reminded him that Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) was recently adjudged as the second best University in Nigeria and the 13th in Africa, pointing out that, ” that is the the records he should try to beat and not the victimization of his predecessors which was affecting innocent students.

Engr. Chima called on the public to disregard the publications by IMSU Management alleging that some students and their parents hacked the JAMB website or portal and encouraged them to seek for a legal redress and claim damage too.

It was gathered that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olemgbe and the Chairman House Committee on Education, in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Agbasonu promised to look into the issue.
