Supporters of the former Governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, have launched the ‘Rebuild Imo Movement,’ a campaign platform preparing for the 2027 governorship election in Imo State. This initiative follows Ihedioha’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he helped establish.

Sir Stanley Ekezie, a dedicated member of the Rebuild Imo Movement and a former national officer of the PDP, disclosed this during the movement’s inaugural press conference in Owerri on Thursday. He characterized the movement as a venue for planning and solidifying Ihedioha’s political aspirations in the state. Ekezie, along with other former PDP members who have joined Ihedioha in the movement, stressed that the Rebuild Imo Movement aims to collaborate with all concerned citizens of Imo State and organizations to advance and fortify democracy in the state.

He mentioned that consultations have begun and will be expanded to include all perspectives and groups, emphasizing that their inclusive movement will encompass all 27 local government areas and the three geopolitical zones. He urged Imo citizens who share similar ideals and aspirations for Imo to unite as they embark on this participatory democratic journey.

He stated, “Our objective is clear, and therefore, we will reach out to all individuals who support the advancement of democracy and good governance in our state and the nation as a whole.” While promising to reveal the list of individuals who left the PDP to join this new endeavor under the Rebuild Imo Movement soon, Ihedioha stated that the purpose of this briefing is to inform Imo people that they have moved forward and will not be swayed in their pursuit of promoting good governance and democracy in Imo State and Nigeria.

He affirmed, “This engagement will continue at all levels, as we remain receptive to building consensus with all groups or individuals committed to the promotion of good governance and democracy in Imo State and Nigeria.” The former PDP national officer criticized the PDP’s lack of adherence to due processes, suggesting that the party was on the path to self-destruction in the state due to the negligence of the PDP National Working Committee in following its own constitution in handling its affairs in Imo.
