The sharing of commissioner slots across local government areas (LGAs) in Imo State has reportedly ignited unrest within the state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma had recently nominated people who would fill up the vacant commissioner positions in his cabinet.
However, there is rising concerns in some LGAs following their seeming exclusion from the commissioner list.
It is interesting to note that while some Local Governments failed to get even a single slot in the sharing process, others received multiple appointments, with some LGAs getting up to two or three slots.
Uzodimma nominated second and third batches after making the initial round of appointments, with the final list coming out on the eve of the inauguration day.
The absence of nominees from Local Government Areas like Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta as well as Ikeduru is said to be causing dissatisfaction among the people especially party members.
APC leaders in the affected areas have been queried by their constituents over the lack of representation in the state cabinet.
Most prominent is the issues of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta who were denied representation, while neighboring Oru West, from the same federal constituency, secured three commissioner positions.
Further causing tensions is the allocation of three slots to Nwangele and two to Isu LGAs, both of which are in the same federal constituency.
Ehime Mbano LGA also received two commissioner positions, adding to the discontent among affected LGAs.
There is reports suggesting that leaders from the affected LGAs are making plans to meet with Uzodimma to address their grievances regarding the lack of commissioner slots.
