Many have questioned why someone with my extensive profile would choose to run for the position of Chairman of Ideato North Local Government. I would like to take this opportunity to explain my decision and share the driving force behind my candidacy: a deep passion for my community.

A Community in Decline

Growing up, Ideato North was a vibrant agrarian society with food in surplus. Every household would serve you a hearty, nutritious meal, often Akpu, a popular food made from processed cassava. I fondly remember the communal spirit and pride that came with every meal. However, over the years, this trend started to decline. Today, it is almost impossible to find locally produced Akpu in our community; instead, my people now have to buy it. This decline from surplus to scarcity is deeply troubling.

What Happened?

The stories of decline are numerous and intertwined with the neglect of our agricultural sector. Our farmers, once the backbone of our community, have been left without the necessary support and resources to thrive. The younger generation, seeing the struggles of their parents, have turned away from farming, leaving our fertile lands underutilized. As a result, we have lost not just a source of food, but a significant part of our heritage and identity.

The State of Education

Similarly, our education system, once a source of pride, has suffered. I remember the days when our schools were filled with eager students and dedicated teachers. Education was the key to unlocking opportunities, and our community produced many bright minds who went on to achieve great things. However, the decline in the quality of education has been disheartening. Inadequate facilities, lack of motivated teachers, and insufficient support for students have all contributed to this downward spiral.

Why I Am Running?

My decision to run for the chairmanship of Ideato North Local Government is driven by a deep passion to revive these critical sectors and restore our community to its former glory. I believe that with the right leadership, we can transform our local government into a model of progress and prosperity.

My 3-Point Agenda

Through my 3-point agenda of Education Reform, Revolutionized Agriculture, and Security, I aim to:

  1. Revitalize our educational system: Ensure our children receive quality education, preparing them for a brighter future. This involves establishing education inspectors, creating guidance and counseling units, implementing digital attendance systems, integrating skill learning into the curriculum, and introducing Edupolice to support out-of-school children.
  2. Empower our farmers: Provide the necessary resources and support to boost agricultural productivity. This includes government-backed seedling programs, acting as off-takers and processors, and focusing on key value chains such as cassava and palm oil.
  3. Enhance security: Address the root causes of insecurity by creating jobs and engaging our youth in constructive activities, ensuring a safe and prosperous community.

My Journey and Commitment:

Born on June 1, 1983, I am a proud son of Ndiuche Arondizuogu, Izuogu Ward 1. My educational journey took me from Government Secondary School Owerri to Imo State University, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in accountancy. I furthered my education with a master’s degree in Financial Technology from Dublin Business School, Ireland. In addition to these qualifications, I am a certified data analyst, software developer, cybersecurity expert, and an expert in anti-money laundering and digital banking.

After completing my bachelor’s degree, I participated in the NYSC program in 2008, serving at Africa Business Roundtable ECOWAS under the chairmanship of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. This invaluable experience exposed me to international business dynamics and policy-making processes. Over the years, I have worked with several international organizations, including Global Analytical Consulting UK, Global Training Consulting UK, and African Business Roundtable ECOWAS. Additionally, I have served in the diplomatic community at the Nigeria Embassy in Ireland.

In 2011, I co-founded Worldbridge Consulting Incorporated Canada and became the Business Development Manager (Nigeria). Through Worldbridge, we have provided numerous training solutions to financial organizations, including Central Banks across Africa. For over the past 10 years, we have helped the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stay abreast of current trends in finance, banking, and financial crimes.

My passion for politics dates back to my university days when I was elected as Director of Finance for the Student Union Government (SUG). I have held several political positions, including significant roles within the diplomatic community. In addition to my professional and political pursuits, I am an agricultural entrepreneur with significant investments in cassava farming and processing, palm processing, and livestock farming.

I stand before you as a fellow community member, deeply committed to serving Ideato North. Together, we can revive our traditions, support our farmers, educate our children, and create a secure and thriving community. Your support and blessing are crucial as we embark on this journey together.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Let us unite for a brighter future for Ideato North.

Best regards,
Obinna Okoronkwo
