…Reaffirms Commitment to Zoning in Imo LG Elections
On Sunday, August 25, 2024, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State celebrated his recent Supreme Court victory in a grand ceremony at the Government House in Owerri. The event drew a diverse gathering of Imo citizens, reflecting widespread support from across the state.
The celebrations began with a church service at the Government House Chapel, attended by a large crowd from all 27 local government areas of Imo State. During the service, Governor Uzodimma expressed his profound gratitude to God and the judiciary for upholding the results of the November 11, 2023, gubernatorial election. The governor acknowledged the divine intervention and the role of the legal system in affirming the mandate given to him by Ndi Imo.
Following the church service, the festivities moved to the Imo Banquet Hall, where a formal reception was held. In his address, Governor Uzodimma extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Imo State for their unwavering support throughout his tenure and legal battles. He pledged to continue delivering quality leadership and to fulfill his promises of development and prosperity for the state.
A significant highlight of Governor Uzodimma’s speech was his emphasis on the importance of adhering to zoning arrangements in the upcoming Imo Local Government elections. He urged aspirants to respect the zoning formulas, which are crucial for ensuring equity, fairness, and justice across the various communities in the state. The governor reminded candidates that only one person could emerge as the Executive Council Chairman for each local government, and only one person could be elected as Ward Councilor.
Governor Uzodimma cautioned against treating the election process as a do-or-die affair. He acknowledged that not all aspirants might be genuinely qualified but still pursued candidacies. He pointed out that the funds spent on forms are allocated to the party and not to the state coffers, stressing the need for integrity and fairness in the electoral process.
Moreover, the governor explicitly condemned unethical practices, including the use of oaths or charms to secure electoral victories. He made it clear that any candidate found engaging in such practices would be disqualified by his administration. Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and transparency in all electoral matters.
In a gesture of unity and religious solidarity, Governor Uzodimma also announced his intention to meet with Evangelist Ebuka Obi, highlighting his support for the Catholic faithful and the shared goal of improving the welfare of Imo State.
It can be recalled that the Christian minister showered praises on Uzodimma for providing the platform for his ministry in the state.
The celebration was graced by several prominent figures, including APC senators from Imo, top government officials, and numerous supporters of the Shared Prosperity Administration. The event not only marked a significant affirmation of Governor Uzodimma’s leadership but also underscored his commitment to ensuring fair, transparent, and equitable electoral practices in Imo State.
