In a dramatic turn of events, Mr. Fabian Ihekweme, a former commissioner in Imo State and outspoken critic of Governor Hope Uzodimma, has been arrested at his Abuja residence and transported to Imo State under controversial circumstances. The incident has sparked outrage after a viral video surfaced featuring his wife, Excel Fabian, accusing top government officials and a prominent businessman of orchestrating the arrest.
In the video, Excel Fabian alleged that billionaire businessman Tony Chukwu and Chief Cosmos Iwu, Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), masterminded her husband’s ordeal. She claimed the duo lured her husband to a meeting at Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, during which his vehicle was trailed. Subsequently, his driver was arrested and coerced into revealing Ihekweme’s location, leading to his detention.
Excel Fabian passionately defended her husband’s actions, asserting that he had merely called on Governor Uzodimma to provide good governance for the people of Imo State. “What wrong did my husband commit?” she questioned, accusing Chukwu and Iwu of acting on behalf of what she termed the “Emperor governor.”
She charged her words directly to Chukwu and Iwu: “Release Fabian Ihekweme the way you handed him over to your Emperor governor, Hope Uzodimma.”
The arrest comes amidst a tense political atmosphere in Imo State, with critics of the Uzodimma administration claiming increased persecution. Ihekweme, who had served as a commissioner during the previous administration, recently criticized the governor’s policies, making his arrest particularly contentious.
Neither the Imo State Government nor its representatives, including Chukwu and Iwu, have responded publicly to the allegations at the time of this report. Meanwhile, civil society groups and political observers are raising concerns over the use of state power to target opposition voices.
The development has further polarized political discourse in the state, with many calling for transparency and due process in handling the matter. Advocates for human rights are closely monitoring the situation, urging the government to ensure Ihekweme’s safety and fair treatment.
